The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Orthopaedic & Sports Science is committed to the development of graduates who can:
Access, evaluate, and integrate best evidence in order to design guidelines and to provide current best practice for clients and patients seeking orthopaedic and sports physical therapy services;
Through an ideal blend of face-to-face and distance education, the program allows students to pursue doctoral education while maintaining professional and personal obligations. Additionally, students learn from a top-notch, nation-wide faculty who provide diverse instruction which enriches and broadens the academic experience. The program consists of seven, four-month semesters of coursework plus the dissertation component. Each semester includes three modules:
Anatomy, biomechanics, orthopaedic pathology, radiology, special tests and evaluation of orthopaedic dysfunction, and advance manual therapy skills make up the program’s specialty courses. Combined with specialty courses, core courses and directed independent study are designed to enhance research, teaching, and administrative skills. PhD students incorporate original research and advance knowledge within this concentration area as part of the dissertation. A comprehensive examination and practicum are also required within the 75-credit degree program.
